  1. WSOC news stopped by our home today to interview us regarding the street assessment, by Mecklenburg County) of the neighborhood. WSOC was referred to us by some of our neighbors, probably due to Bill's involvement with the Home Owners Association during the late 90's and early 2000's. Bill gave the interviewer (Jason) a 5 minute history of the street project and how the process would unfold so the interviewer would be able to ask informed questions as to the actual details. This information Bill shared was provided to the Board by Mr. Robert Binford from Mecklenburg County. The whole process went pretty much as explained by Mr. Binford, with the exception of the timing of the final outcome (cost), and how much each resident on each repaired street would owe. This probably had to do with the untimely death of Mr. Binford and the misplacement of the County paperwork (surprise, surprise). Anyhow, Bill gave WSOC a complete rundown of the streets involved and a couple of reasons why people may be upset by the timing of the assessment. Understandably, newcomers to the neighborhood were most likely never properly informed by the County (lien on title) as to the amount of this assessment. Of course WSOC will filter what they want to "put out there" to placate the people who contacted them, but all in all only the facts, as represented by Mecklenburg County, were offered during the interview. The important item to remember regarding the petition process, was, as long as 75% of the residents, on any street submitted for repair, signed the petition all the residents would be assessed.
It will be interesting to see what is broadcast and how this issue is portrayed publicly.
